I believe art can open people up to radical alternatives to the present, and the responsibility of creating work whose theory and praxis are directed towards queer liberation, and thus contributing to the liberation of all people, is something I take seriously. I value action over representation, and breath over metaphor. My art practice is a form of caretaking, of validating the anger of the Just, sowing seeds (figuratively through education and literally at the local queer farm), and reminding myself that the armor we use to protect ourselves from the rain of violence enacted on us by the dying empire is not the skin that we feel when we hold each other. My intermedia art practice was instrumental in becoming the woman I am today. Looking back at this transformation through, I ask: what other futures might we create together?
I work intermedially between the fields of electronic art, music, and writing. My studio practice includes analog and digital writing, the use of a wide range of software (the adobe creative suite, touchdesigner, VCVrack, various digital audio workstations, and unique software made by creative toolmakers) and conventional media (drawing, sculpture, photography), and devotional practice with multiple instruments (voice, piano, banjo, guitar, bass vi, bass, and drums).
“I find I never feel quite complete unless I’m doing all the arts-- visual, musical and literary. I guess that’s why I developed the term ‘intermedia,’ to cover my works that fall conceptually between these.” -- Dick Higgins
“The line between art and life should be kept as fluid, and perhaps indistinct, as possible” --Allan Kaprow
“I use technology in order to hate it more properly.” -- Nam June Paik
